Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service seeks applications for a Program Specialist I position in Pond Management. This is a full time, permanent position with 100% Extension responsibilities in the Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Texas A&M University. Support of and cooperation with district and county Extension faculty and other Extension faculty in planning, conducting, and evaluating educational programs is required. The position will be headquartered at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center for Extension District 5 located in Overton, Texas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to develop a high profile, effective educational program in Pond Management, with emphasis on practices beneficial to overall pond health and fish management which is recognized across Texas. Other major job responsibilities include:

• Provide educational program support, technical expertise and training/professional development for County Extension Agents in pond management and related areas.

• Work individually and as a team member to effectively educate adult and youth audiences on major aspects of pond management by planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs, applied research to support Extension programs, result/demonstration projects, pond tours and field days, and other educational events or activities.

• Cooperate with internal and external stakeholders including other specialists and AgriLife personnel, state and federal agencies, commodity associations, private landowners, industry representatives and non-governmental organizations to develop innovative approaches to pond management programming and problem solving.

• Cooperate with other specialists and faculty to pursue and acquire external funding support to assist in the development of Extension education programs.

• Develop a portfolio of educational materials, Extension publications, articles and fact sheets, online and electronic applications, newsletters and other forms of educational output, such as podcasts and webinars, to support Extension programming efforts.

• Develop relationships with appropriate media outlets (print, electronic, TV) and apply distance education approaches where appropriate to multiply Extension education and reach emerging, new and more diverse audiences.

• Other duties may be assigned as required.

Requirements

B.S. required, M.S. preferred in Fisheries Management, Fisheries Sciences and Management, Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture or related field is required. An ability to work with agencies, private landowners, and other entities in a collaborative and collegial manner is essential to the success of this position. The ability to travel and a valid U.S. driver’s license are required for this position.
