Seafood Savers membership is directed to domestic and foreign seafood companies that act as producers, collectors/ middleman, processors and distributors, retailers and financial institutions. Prior to applying for Seafood Savers membership, aquaculturebased companies are obliged to demonstrate four requirements. 1) Company has legal entity acknowledged by the authority in the country of origin, 2) Company operates within Indonesian territory, 3) Company intends to apply for ASC certification and, 4) Company conforms to a series of steps and mechanisms of Seafood Savers membership based on Seafood Savers Institutional Guidelines. Companies that meet these prerequisites will subsequently have to follow strict steps toward Seafood Savers membership. What is the benefit by joining Seafood Savers Program? • Once a company signs membership agreement, a media acknowledgement will be issued by WWF-Indonesia/Seafood Savers to spotlight the company’s partnership with WWF-Indonesia towards responsible aquaculture through the Seafood Savers Program. • Providing a membership certificate proving a company’s involvement in activities or improvement of aquaculture in Indonesia. • Company’s profile is listed on the Seafood Savers website (www.seafoodsavers.org or www.wwf.or.id/seafoodsavers) and a restricted page accommodating progress and evaluation of the Seafood Savers scheme will be provided. A website and mailing list for updates and discussions on sustainable/responsible aquaculture would be available for members. • Having authorization to use Seafood Savers logo for company’s properties and publication materials with regards to Seafood Savers branding guidelines and policies. • Obtaining technical assistance on responsible aquaculture practices in accordance with ASC principles. • Receiving assistance on communications/campaign strategy development for market/buyer education on responsible aquaculture products. • Gaining advantages from Seafood Savers publications and events in terms of acknowledgement or participation (annual reports, annual meetings, Seafood Savers profile, exhibitions, media engagement, campaign, and networking). Seafood Savers Members Currently there are four aquaculture- based companies engaged as Seafood Savers members. PT. Mustika Mina Aurora (MMA) has a shrimp processing plant in Tarakan, North Kalimantan and 34 registered shrimp ponds owned by 11 farmers as part of their supply chain. PT. MMA has been actively involved in the conservation programs on mangrove rehabilitation and proboscis monkey conservation since 2006 through the partnership with WWF-Indonesia. PT. Samudera Eco Anugrah (SEA) Indonesia is a national seafood retailer and supplier of eco-friendly seafood. Sourcing product from aquafarmers assisted by WWF-Indonesia and or Jaring-Nusantara, a coalition of 18 NGOs aiming to implement fisheries and aquaculture improvement practices at the small-scale level, PT. SEA Indonesia claims to be the first eco-friendly seafood retailer and supplier in Indonesia. Fish ‘n Blues is an eco-brand for the aquaculture and fisheries products of PT. SEA Indonesia and has been distributed to local consumers in Jakarta and Denpasar. PT. SEA has registered tilapia from 30 units of floating cage net culture in Simalungun, North Sumatra and black tiger shrimp from brackish pond culture in Lhokseumawe, East Aceh. Celebes Seaweed Group (CSG). Not only fish or shellfish culture are supported by the improvement program, but also aquatic plant culture. Celebes Seaweed Group (CSG), with the main company (Agroniaga Cooperative) based in Palopo, South Sulawesi, has registered 69.4 ha of Gracilaria farms as their supply chain to be responsibly improved through Seafood Savers. As a dried seaweed supplier since 2004, CSG has maintained customer trust by assuring the quality of dried seaweed. By integrating their program with Seafood Savers, one of the goals is to assist the company to improve product quality. PT. Bumi Menara Internusa (BMI) has registered 16 Pacific white shrimp ponds with a total area of 9 ha in Probolinggo, East Java, to be assisted by Seafood Savers. PT. BMI is operating its own
