Blessing is well connected to and has been instrumental in the formation of several networks and associations in fisheries and aquaculture in Africa. He values the development of such networks as an important resource for change, and for putting the continent on one page. Blessing is also Field Correspondent for the recently launched Aquaculture Africa Magazine. Blessing is expected to co-ordinate the day-to-day functions of the African Chapter Secretariat Office. C H A P T E R R E P O R T S I write this after visiting magnificent Montpellier in France, the venue of AQUA 2018. As President of WAS-APC, chapter progress and prospects were detailed and many interesting ideas to increase membership and member benefits were discussed. Farm tour visits renewed my VISION 2020 on aquaculture development. The Palavas- les-Flots experimental platform, the largest French infrastructure dedicated to marine fish and microalgae, was worth visiting. My takeaway from AQUA 2018 is that RAS-based aquaculture systems should be promoted in the Asian Pacific region to improve productivity and achieve more production volume in less space. As I am currently serving as a Vice Chancellor at the Fisheries University in Chennai, this meeting helped me to nurture more research on RAS-based aquaculture systems, to develop technical manpower in strengthening the human resources of my country and other Asian Pacific countries. I am also pleased to see developments in WAS and its impacts in improving the aquaculture sector globally, especially its new beginning in Africa. These are really exciting times and the developments, implementation and change needed to support the sustainable growth of our industry. The APC is supporting many conferences happening in Asia continent, underpinning the integration of a diverse group of people working towards food security goals and the sustainability of protein supply from aquatic resources. The APC had a booth and invited talks at the Myanmar Fishery Focus 2018 held from 1-3 November 2018. We also supported industrial stakeholders by sponsoring the International Conference on Aquaculture Indonesia held in Yogyakarta. The discount agreements scheme with private partners to the benefit of APC members have been kickstarted with a few companies and many more investors have been attracted with this scheme during AquaSg’18 organized from 3-6 October 2018 in Singapore, in which the APC also had a booth. Committee and APC Board members have completed revisions to the procedures and policies manual of the APC and this will help incoming board members know their roles and responsibilities. WAS-APC is financing the translation of a few World Aquaculture magazine articles in Chinese for a year and the very first article on “The Incidence of Formalin in Fishes in Asia —Some Solutions” has been posted on the APC website. Lastly I encourage all to attend the APC’s biggest event, Asian Pacific Aquaculture 2019, which will be held at Chennai, India from 19-21 June 2019, with huge participation from Southeast Asian countries and other parts of the globe. Aquaculture is rapidly growing in Asia and particularly in India, now the largest shrimp exporting country, which is increasingly investing in aquaculture frommany new stakeholders and with support of the government. A major international tradeshow to showcase the latest aquaculture technologies will be included. Start preparing for your trip, book your flights and hotels in advance and bring your family to have a good time in India by visiting some of the many historical places.
