There were 407 presentations - 19 invited speeches, 85 oral and 303 posters. Over 500 scholars (468 domestic and 55 foreign) from 16 countries participated in the conference. 2018 KOSFAS Annual Conference and Business Meeting The annual conference and business meeting of KOSFAS was also held in November in Busan. At the business meeting, a signing ceremony of the MoU between the KOSFAS (President Prof. Pyong- Kih Kim) and the Japanese Society of Fisheries Science (President: Prof. Shuichi Satoh) took place to undertake collaborative work in the form of academic and business cooperation. Prof. Chae-Woo Ma (Soonchunhyang Univ.) was elected president of KOSFAS for 2019 and Prof. Min Soo Heu (Gyeongsang National Univ.) as president-elect at the KOSFAS annual business meeting. Prof. Seon-Bong Kim (Pukyong National Univ.) was appointed Editor-in- Chief of the Korean Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences and Prof. Sungchul C. Bai (Pukyong National Univ.) and Prof. You Jin Jeon (Jeju National Univ.) were assigned as Editor-in-Chiefs of the Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. Kore an Chap t er , continued from page 7 The 12thWorld Ocean Forum 2018 The 12th World Ocean Forum (WOF) 2018 under the theme of “Creating and Sustaining Value from the Oceans” was held in October in Busan. WOF 2018 was hosted by MOF (Minister, Mr. Young-choon Kim), Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor, Mr. Keo-don Oh) and Busan Daily News (President, Mr. Byung-Gil An) and organized by the Korea Association of Marine Industry (KAMI). WOF 2018 discussed various rising issues related to the oceans which create future value for our society and focus on its effects. The event brought together world-renowned scholars, maritime experts, and related professionals and had in-depth discussions on the future value of the oceans and maritime industries. Mr. Kevin Ashton, founder of the 4th Industrial Revolution Internet (IoT) concept and former head of clean technology at Belkin, UK, made a keynote speech at the opening ceremony on the theme of “The Internet of Things and the Future of the Sea.” The forum was held in four regular sessions: Peace and Ocean Collaboration in Northeast Asia, New Business in Marine Environment, Discovering the Value of New Ocean, and Creating Value for the New Economy, Established Future, Market Opportunities. Four special sessions including ‘Ocean Journalism to deal with the media related to the sea,’ ‘Oceanic Humanities (learn from the old future, Northeast Asian modern sea road),’ ‘Marine Start-Up Competition’ and ‘ODA for sustainable development (public development aid).’ Over 2000 leaders from 28 countries participated in the three-day event. — Ik Kyo Chung, President U.S. AQUACULTURE SOCIETY Sponsored Publ icat ions Reques t for Proposal s The USAS is seeking proposals for publications, including books, conference proceedings, fact sheets, pictorials, hatchery or production manuals, data compilations, and other materials that are important to U.S. aquaculture development and that will be of benefit to USAS members. Individuals wishing to have a project considered for funding by the USAS should prepare a proposal — guidelines are available on the website www.was.org . • CONDITIONS FOR PUBLICATION: The USAS Board of Directors will rate proposals and select projects for publication. The successful applicant will serve as co-author; however, depending on contribution to the publication, the applicant may not necessarily serve as chief or sole author. The USAS will cover general publication and distribution costs for one or more projects up to $5,000 each year. However, special consider- ation will be given to worthwhile projects that exceed this limit. No compensation will be provided to the authors for their time spent in writing the publication.
