Activities are not limited to policy and research but extend to the private sector, especially to developing markets for Korean companies in the Philippines. Korea-Indonesia Video Conference on Maritime and Fisheries Cooperation The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries held a video conference with Mr. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan (Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Indonesia) in November. They discussed ways to expand maritime and fisheries cooperation on blue carbon, aquaculture, marine debris and strengthen marine and fisheries capacity. They agreed to work together for the joint prosperity of Korea and ASEAN by establishing the ASEAN-Korea Ministerial Meeting for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The KOFFST International Conference 2021 The Korean Federation of Fisheries Science and Technology Societies (KOFFST) held their international conference at Bexco Busan in November. A keynote lecture on ‘Alternative seafood production’ was presented by Prof. Jum Sook Chung (Univ. of Maryland, USA). There were three main sessions (Fisheries Processing/Uses, Aquaculture, and Fisheries Resources-Ocean Environment) and several special sessions with 59 oral presentations and 215 posters. For this hybrid Zoom-live conference, there were 296 domestic and 13 foreign delegates from 16 countries. KOSFAS 2021 Annual Meeting The Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (KOSFAS) held the annual conference and business meeting in November under the theme of ‘Conservation and Development of Sustainable Fishery Resources,’ during the KOFFST International Conference 2021. Prof. Wongyu Park (Pukyong Nat’l Univ.) was elected as the president of the KOSFAS for 2022 and Prof. Jung Seok Lee (Gyeongsang Nat’l Univ.) as the president-elect at the KOSFAS annual business meeting. Winners of the KOSFAS Awards 2021 The Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (KOSFAS) announced the KOSFAS and Sajo Fisheries Awards, which honor the achievements, science and technology development at the KOSFAS Annual Meeting Conference 2021. Awards were given by Sajo Group, a world-class comprehensive food company. Prof. Min Soo Heu (past KOSFAS president) received the Won Jong-Hoon Academic Award. Sajo Fisheries Academic Awards went to Prof. Eun-Woo Lee (Dongeui Univ.) and Dr. Hyung Chul Kim (NIFS). Sajo Fisheries Young Scientists Awards went to Drs. Bong-Joo Lee (NIFS) and Hyun Woo Kim (NIFS). The Sajo Fisheries Technology Promotion Award went to Mr. Gwang Je Park (Samsin Fisheries Gear Co.). The Busan International Seafood & Fisheries Expo 2021 (BISFE 2021) The BISFE 2021 was held at Bexco Busan in November. This year, 420 companies from 20 countries participated. Last year, when the situation was low due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it achieved similar results to the previous years. World Ocean Forum 2021: ‘The Future of Everything: Ocean Transformation’ The World Ocean Forum (WOF) celebrated its 15th anniversary this year. Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the forum was held in the form of a hybrid conference in October in Busan. The theme of ocean transformation is for a significant shift in the future direction of the marine sector, and strategies for the New Normal era, with the discovery of new agenda on “transition” and “transformation.” During the opening ceremony, Mr. Mauro F. Guillén (Cambridge Judge Business School) gave the first keynote lecture on Global Trends, Sustainability, and the City. Subsequently, Mr. UmWoo-chong (Asian Development Bank) gave the second keynote speech on Securing a Sustainable ‘Blue Future’ for Asia and the Pacific Blue economy, industry, role of tech and innovation in ocean futures. The third one on Securing a Sustainable ‘Blue Future’ for Asia and the Pacific Blue economy, industry, role of tech and innovation in ocean futures by Mr. Woo-chong Um (Asian Development Bank). The Fisheries Session on Fisheries Achievement of 2030 SDGs and the ESG Revolution was chaired by Dr. Cho Jung-hee. There were five presentations: (1) Fishery & Aquaculture 4.0 – POST- COVID-19 by Prof. Matthew Tan, (2) Using MSC program to implement Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG): Guidance for investors by Mr. Patrick Caleo, (3) Transforming Blue Foods to feed the world by Mr. Manuel Barange, (4) The Advent of SDGs and Korea’s Strategic Actions by Prof. Seok-ho Kim, and (5) Beyond Sustainable Fishing by Mr. Myoung-woo Lee. — Ik Kyo Chung, President C H A P T E R R E P O R T S As i an Paci f ic Chap t er , continued from page 5 Following up on past president’s proposals, the social media initiative “Ask the Experts” corner will allow specialists to answer questions fromAPCmembers and promote interactions between experts from different backgrounds. This was proposed by Dr. Diana Chan Pek Sian and I hope I can finalize a trial program on the APC website to assess the feasibility and the positive outcome of this initiative, which would mainly rest on our members’ willingness to participate.
