I distinctly remember my first field trip to an oyster bed and Ken (hot sauce in his pocket) shucking and eating oysters on the tideflats in South Sound. I did not know it at the time of course, but like others here—would repeat and enjoy this same experience (no hot sauce but a data book in hand) on too many low tides to count and hopefully counting! He introduced me to RonWestley on a Washington State ferry boat and I spent two summers working for my later employer (thenWashington Dept of Fisheries) counting oyster larvae in Dabob Bay. It really began my career and kindled my interest in science and shellfish aquaculture. Ken then continued to nurture that interest as an advisor and as others have noted always checked in with his students. I cherish so many of those memories too—perhaps most often at annual PCS -NSA/PCSGA meetings —UWvan rides, Chinese dinners, and being hand selected by Ken to run or just be placed in office!! I’m indebted in so many ways. — Brent Dumbauld Prot e in, continued from page 67 Wilson, R.P. and J.E. Halver. 1986. Protein and amino acid requirements of fishes.
