Coral reefs worldwide have suffered dramatically as the result of numerous stressors including local and global related human impacts such as pollution, overfishing, and climate change.
Scientists, aquaculture experts, veterinarians, and restoration practitioners are racing to find solutions for coral conservation and restoration.
We explore recent breakthroughs in coral gene banking, reproduction, and amplification used in Florida which are contributing to a restoration plan. Numerous agencies and institutions are working together to develop advanced molecular techniques for coral identification and disease/temperature resistance selection. Additional efforts are focusing on artificail reefs and out-planting strategies for increasing coral survival. We focus on evaluating the efficacy of these efforts when combined and in consideration of future uncertainty.
