The 2024–2025 academic year marked a period of growth and engagement for the Kentucky State University (KSU) United State Aquaculture Society (USAS) Student Subunit. Members led initiatives that advanced education, research, community service, and professional development. Fall 2024 began with Fishing Fest at the KSU Aquaculture Research Centre’s Upper Reservoir, where the KSU USAS Student Subunit collaborated with the International Student and Scholar Association (ISSA) to teach students how to fish (Figure 1). Other initiatives included a Thanksgiving Potluck, and submission of the Food Handler and Food Manager Grant to support food safety initiatives. In Spring 2025, the subunit hosted a social bowling night alongside ISSA to welcome new student members, promote member interactions, foster unity and networking with other KSU students from main campus. Public and academic engagements included volunteer work at the KSU Legislative Fish Fry, and AgRound-Up events to showcase aquaculture and interact with high school participants. The subunit hosted a global expert in shellfish aquaculture, Dr. Carter Newell, as guest-speaker on mussel production systems to provide educational insight into sustainable mussel farming practices and opportunities in aquaculture. Members participated in abstract submissions and presentations for Aquaculture America 2025. Community engagement included post-flood cleanup activity at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, KY, where we helped to seine and rescue trapped fishes due to flooding caused by heavy downpour of rain (Figure 1). The subunit took an educational field trip to Food Chain in Lexington, a nonprofit organization combating food insecurity. The year’s highlight also featured the successful election of new executives, ensuring continued leadership and advancing the subunit’s mission and values. The year concluded with campus beautification through a paint party, and active participation in Homecoming events. Collectively, these efforts strengthened the subunit’s commitment to service, education, and leadership in aquaculture and
