The future of U.S. aquaculture depends on who is empowered to lead and sustain it. Since 2020, Minorities In Aquaculture (MIA) has worked to expand access for women—particularly women of color—to enter and advance within aquaculture, maritime, and fisheries careers. Through mentorship, workforce training, and data-driven program development, MIA builds inclusive pathways that strengthen both individuals and the industry.

This session will share insights from MIA’s five-year journey, highlighting lessons learned from women navigating underrepresented spaces, the power of mentorship networks, and the value of data collection in tracking workforce outcomes and shaping equitable opportunities. By connecting personal stories with measurable impact, the session will illustrate how investing in representation and inclusion drives resilience and innovation.

Participants will gain practical tools to foster mentorship, strengthen data-informed inclusion efforts, and support the next generation of women leaders in aquaculture.
