Innovasea conducted a detailed geospatial suitability study of The Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea to indicate countries or regions that are highly suitable for net pen aquaculture. The analysis is based primarily on oceanographic parameters including bathymetry, distance from shore, wave height, current velocity, and hurricane frequency, but also includes some other elements such as MPA’s vessel traffic, airports and other aspects of infrastructure, and country investment risk.
The methods and results of the analysis are presented here with several highly suitable areas highlighted.
