The U.S. aquaculture industry stands at a critical juncture, with immense potential for sustainable growth and economic contribution. To help realize this potential, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has established the Cooperative Institute Fostering Aquaculture Research and Marketing (CIFARM). This presentation will formally introduce CIFARM to the aquaculture community and stakeholders, outlining its vision, mission, and strategic framework.

As a collaborative partnership between NOAA and the host institution(s), CIFARM will serve as a national hub for innovative research and a catalyst for market development. We will discuss the institute’s core thematic priorities, which include but are not limited to advancing sustainable production systems across all aquaculture sectors, improving genetics, strengthening aquatic animal health, and expanding the socioeconomic research needed to grow domestic markets. Furthermore, this talk will detail CIFARM’s operational structure, highlighting how it will leverage federal and academic expertise to address the most pressing challenges and opportunities identified by industry stakeholders.

Attendees will learn about the process for engagement, upcoming research funding opportunities, and the various pathways for collaboration with the Cooperative Institute. Join us to learn how CIFARM will serve as a vital partner in building a more resilient and prosperous future for U.S. aquaculture.
