PRELIMINARY STUDY: RECOMBINANT GROWTH HORMONE APLICATION FOR TIGER GROUPER

Tiger grouper Epinephelus fuscoguttatus is a one of economical marine fish culture in Indonesia. The growth rate of the species studied was faster than other economical grouper species, such as humpback grouper. However, since growth rate was important factor for making aquaculture more efficient in terms of minimizing cost production and risk; therefore fastening growth rate of this species still needed. The goal of this preliminary studied was to find out the effect of rELGH orally treatment for tiger grouper.

Daily application of crude rElGH at a dose of 50 mg kg-1 in commercial diet for 35 days resulted in significant increases in growth performance; whether in total body weight (TBW), total length(TL) or specific growth rate of the fish. Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) of treatment group was better than control group. Relative weight gain of treatment group was 31,86% higher than control group. Meanwhile, conditional factor value as manifestation of TBW proportion to TL for treatment group was not significant compare to control group.

These results strongly suggested that the stimulation of growth following oral administration in tiger grouper was due to a specific action of rElGH. However, the appropriate dosage of rElGH for tiger grouper should be designed in order to find better growth performance.
