Assistant Professor in Aquaculture (0083461)

Job Details

Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (25% effort) related to aquaculture and animal science consistent with departmental priorities, including practical course(s) at Tuahine Aquaculture Research and Education Center (TAREC).
  2. Develop and conduct Extension teaching (15% effort) related to the production and marketing of commercially-important species in Hawaii grown in aquaculture and aquaponics.
  3. Develop a mission-oriented, applied research program (40% effort) focused on expanding the aquaculture industry in the state.
  4. Obtain extramural funding for research and Extension projects in aquaculture and aquaponics.
  5. Develop networking relationships with aquaculture professionals in Sea Grant and Land Grant programs in Hawaii and across the U.S.
  6. Publish peer-reviewed original research in aquaculture and develop extension publications such as technical reports, brochures, manuals, etc. and workshops that disseminate latest scientific information.
  7. Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research and Extension.
  8. Demonstrate leadership in departmental, college, university, and profession-related service activities.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications 

  1. Ph.D. degree in aquaculture, animal sciences or related field with a focus on aquaculture from a college or university of recognized standing.
  2. A track record of peer-reviewed publications as first- or corresponding author and thorough knowledge of current aquaculture research and Extension literature.
  3. Record of grantsmanship.
  4. Ability to teach college or university-level courses.
  5. Ability to plan and organize assigned activities.
  6. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, administration, and stakeholders.

  
Desirable Qualifications

  1. Postdoctoral training in aquaculture, animal sciences or related discipline with a focus on aquaculture.
  2. Experience working with aquaculture producers and other stakeholders, and experience in Extension work or equivalent with the culture of aquatic organisms, commercial production, aquaponics, biology, hatchery, pond, tank or recirculating systems, and aquaculture facility management.
