DTU Food is looking for a skilled and experienced project manager with a background in seafood science and/or seafood development or processing for a large project in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), which is an organisation under the UN. The project aims to develop new aquatic food value chains for vulnerable populations in 4 countries in Africa and 1 country in South America. The project is led by FAO.The job
The responsibility of the project manager at DTU Food will be to coordinate DTU’s activities in the project and to be the contact point for collaboration with local research institutes in the developing countries. DTU’s activities include amongst others characterisation of the chemical composition of aquatic raw materials, shelf life studies, development of guidelines for improved handling practices of raw materials and development of new aquatic food products. Due to the nature of the project travel activities will be an important part of the job.
You will be employed in the Research Group Bioactives – Analysis and Application, which has research in seafood products as one of its focus areas. The group has a dynamic staff with high international visibility, many research collaborations with leading international universities and organisations and a successful track record of national and international research projects. You will have a close collaboration with the Food lab at DTU Skylab regarding the product development activities.
Primary Areas Of Responsibility
You will collaborate closely with a DTU FOOD/SKYLAB steering committee regarding DTU’s part of the project, with DTU scientists and lab technicians employed on the project, with local project management teams in the 5 countries as well as with the project management unit in FAO’s headquarter in Rome. Your primary tasks will be to coordinate:
- activities with local research institutions in the 5 countries
- various laboratory technician tasks at DTU
- development activities
- scientific reporting to FAO
Requirements
You should preferably have an MSc degree in fisheries and aquaculture or in food science and technology. A BSc degree may be sufficient provided you have several years of experience working within the seafood sector.Previous experience in working in African countries and/or coordination of international multistakeholder project activities will be an advantage.You must have experience with coordination/management of projects either from industry or from the public sector. In addition, you:
- have some experience with product development
- are able to collaborate with people of different educational and cultural backgrounds
- are able to work independently and interdisciplinary
- have a good overview even when you have to work on many tasks at the same time
- have good communication skills in English and preferably also in French and/or Spanish
- are flexible and able to engage in travel activities of 1-2 weeks of duration at a time
