Stantec GS is seeking a highly skilled Marine Biologist on a PART-TIME basis to join our Honolulu, HI office. The biologist will utilize their expertise in coral ecology water quality to fulfill a range of responsibilities related to marine resource monitoring, data collection and analysis, and report writing and documentation. Your Key Responsibilities Conducting underwater monitoring of mitigation activities. Record biological and GIS data underwater and on a vessel. Enter, organize, analyze, and QC data Assist with reporting of ongoing mitigation activities Using photogrammetry to generate orthomosaic imagery to monitor coral health, bleaching events, and species diversity.

Requirements

Your Capabilities and Credentials Strong knowledge of underwater survey techniques, data collection methods, data handling, quality control, data entry and analysis, and reporting. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with identification of coral reef and nearshore native and invasive species in Hawaii, Guam, CNMI, and the Pacific. Strong knowledge of coral species, particularly those common Hawaii, Guam, CNMI, and the Pacific. Experience in annotating and analyzing orthomosaic imagery to monitor coral health, bleaching events, and species diversity. Experience with software tools for image processing and model reconstruction. Experience with photogrammetry techniques to create 2D orthomosaics and 3D models of coral reefs. Ability to analyze photogrammetric outputs to assess changes in benthic cover, reef rugosity, and other structural features Extensive experience in scientific diving, with a strong ability to conduct ecological surveys and navigate underwater environments. Ability to safely and comfortably spend extended periods of time underwater while task loaded in in low visibility conditions. Must be able to conduct field work on a vessel for up to 10 hours per day. GIS experience and ability to use ArcGIS and Esri programs preferred but not required. Experience with underwater photography preferred. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Experience working with diverse teams and collaborating effectively in a fast- paced environment. Ability to pass background screening. Excellent grammatical skills, excellent written and spoken English. Excellent verbal communication skills. Knowledge of risk communication principles. Ability to work independently or as a team, with strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills. Excellent MS Office skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Adobe. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good record. Must live on Oahu, Hawaii. Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision. Drug screen is required for position. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and procedures is preferred but not required. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in marine biology, environmental science, natural resource management, or related field. Minimum of 5 years professional experience with in-water data collection, coral reef ecological surveys, coral restoration, marine mitigation or related roles with proven abilities to work on a variety of demanding projects with multi-disciplinary teams. 40 Hour HAZWOPER, adhering to OSHA 29 CFR §1910.120(e) is preferred but not required. Must have American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) active diver status or ability to attain active diver status within a short timeframe.
