The Jacobo, Balla, and Royer groups comprise an interdisciplinary team of researchers with experience in biology, physics, computer science, and microscopy, to study groundbreaking scientific questions using zebrafish as a model system. As part of this effort, we are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Aquaculture Specialist. The position will require a commitment of 40 hours per week, with a set schedule to be determined based on the availability of the selected individual and the needs of the groups involved in zebrafish research. This individual will join an experienced team of investigators and oversee a mid-sized zebrafish facility. This role will be based in San Francisco initially, with a planned transition to Redwood City in two years. You will Feed populations of zebrafish the proper type and amount of food depending on life stage Operate sophisticated recirculating aquaculture systems Conduct zebrafish breedings, genotyping, and screening mutant and transgenic lines Performs and records daily animal health and welfare observations, communicating adverse findings to the Aquaculture Lab Manager Exchange tanks and operate tank washers Maintain the facility per IACUC/AAALAC requirements Maintain live invertebrate culture for feeding adult and larval fish Performs and records water quality testing Transport embryos and fish to and from our nearby stock fish facility Keep an up-to-date database of fish stocks Assist researchers with general fish-husbandry related tasksRequirements
You have Essential – 1+ year of aquaculture experience Interest in biology, animal husbandry, animal behavior, or a related field Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Must be a dedicated team player who can also work independently Nice to have - Interest in learning molecular biology and basic microscopy skills Experience working at a large-scale fish facility Hands-on experience with basic electronics and plumbingContact Information
