Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Natural Resources Site Manager for The Office of Resource Conservation/Fisheries. This position will fill the role of Assistant Manager and as such will provide administrative supervision and direction to programs, facility maintenance, professional staff and technical staff. The incumbent will work in cooperation with another Assistant Manager to oversee the propagation and distribution of sixteen species of cold, cool, and warm-water fish used to increase recreational fishing opportunities across Illinois. The Jake Wolf Memorial Fish Hatchery is comprised of a 36,000-square-foot hatchery building. Located atop a natural aquifer the hatchery can simultaneously accommodate 16 different species of fish and produce some 42 million fish annually. The hatchery's Visitor Center contains an antique fishing tackle exhibit featuring over 200 artifacts. We welcome interested applicants to apply today.
Essential Functions
- Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Provides input into the development of detailed hatchery plan of work.
- Prepares feasibility studies and fisheries and aquatic resource management plan for all fish species to be cultures at Jake Wolf Hatchery.
- Serves as liaison or serves as the Hatchery Manager's representative with state and federal agencies and organizations to coordinate stocking and outdoor recreating planning and management efforts.
- Prepares and disseminates information regarding Jake Wolf Hatchery, agency programs, rules and regulations to the general public, interested individuals and organizations.
- Participates in the preparation of prioritization of the operating budget for Jake Wolf Fish Hatchery.
- Monitors the operation of the Hatchery.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of a bachelor's degree in fish, wildlife, forestry or natural heritage resource management or in a related biological science.
- Requires three years' progressively responsible professional experience in fish, wildlife, forestry, or natural heritage resource management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers three years’ experience in modern fish management and production techniques.
- Prefers two years’ experience in knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to fisheries resource conservation.
- Prefers two years’ experience in ability to manage an assigned fish propagation facility.
- Prefers three years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of specialized fish propagation equipment/instruments.
- Prefers two years’ experience in the ability to supervise supportive staff.
- Prefers two years’ experience in the knowledge of budgetary planning and staffing needs.
- Prefers three years’ experience in the ability to collect and analyze information, and to exercise sound judgment in the analysis and evaluation of technical data, reports/papers.
- Prefers two years’ experience in the ability to comprehend and solve on-site problems at a fish propagation facility.
- Prefers two years’ experience in working knowledge of Fisheries Division objectives, policies, programs and services.
- Prefers two years’ experience in the ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with representatives from federal, state and local governments, conservation organizations and the general public.

All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission.
