Job Details
The Hatchery Manager performs a variety of tasks relating to daily operations and maintenance of our aquaculture site in West Barnstable, Ma, including but not limited to:
- facility and property maintenance,
- fish husbandry tasks,
- spawning and egg care,
- grading fish
- system maintenance
- data collection and analysis
- harvesting
- production planning
- fish stocking
- sales and order taking
- landscaping
- conducting farm tours
- supervision of other staff as needed
- feed and equipment ordering
- equipment repair
This is a full-time, benefitted position expecting 40-60 hours per week. Specific schedule and hours are variable based on seasonality of farming activities and the farm goals. This position includes working in a wet/humid environment, inside or outside during all seasons in all environmental conditions, heavy lifting (over 50lbs), and working in water. Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. for other than practical training. Weekend and Holiday hours are likely required. Driver’s license with clean driving record and willingness to drive fish hauling truck required. On-site housing available for rent and preference will be given to applicants that would live on site. The ability to provide “on-call” emergency response at the farm.
Requirements
We are looking for someone who is motivated, organized, reliable, enjoys outdoor physical work, has excellent communication skills, and can maintain a positive, enthusiastic attitude. Key competencies include, proficiency with basic mathematics, excellent mechanical skills, the ability to work well with others as well as independently, and the ability to swim.
Preference will be given to those with:
- Proven mechanical aptitude
- Aquaculture, agricultural or scientific background
- Supervisory experience
- Horticulture or landscaping experience
- Property maintenance experience
- Trout culture, spawning, and live hauling experience
- Proven success in self-directed, independent work
- Ability to align and work towards goals set by the company
