Our organization is seeking a talented Fisheries Research Specialist with strong analytical skills and the ability to design applied research. You will be a key player in creating the data foundation and driving policies for sustainable fisheries resource management. This role is not just about research; it's about making a tangible impact on the nation's economy, society, and environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape the Research Direction: Plan, design, and execute fisheries research covering ecological, social, economic, and policy dimensions to support critical decision-making.
- Build Data-Driven Insights: Develop and manage fisheries databases, including resource status assessments, fish stock evaluations, and trend monitoring.
- Analyze and Influence Policy: Process scientific data and prepare policy recommendations or academic documents to guide resource management measures.
- Engage with Stakeholders: Collaborate with fishing communities, government agencies, and partners to collect data and communicate research findings.
- Drive Innovation in Fisheries: Contribute to the development of new innovations, such as resource survey tools, data tracking applications, or digital database systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant fields such as Fisheries, Marine Biology, Marine Science, Environmental Science, or related disciplines
- Experience in field research, fisheries data collection, and quantitative or qualitative data analysis
- Proficiency in using analytical tools and software for data processing
- Knowledge of coastal ecosystems, small-scale fisheries, aquaculture, stock assessment, or participatory resource management
- Ability to communicate research findings to stakeholders in an accessible way, such as through policy reports, dashboards, or public relations materials.
- Good command of English, both written and spoken.
- Experience working with government agencies or knowledge of natural resource policy processes is an advantage
