This position is located at the Ed Weed Fish Culture Station, located in Grand Isle, on Lake Champlain. The Ed Weed Fish Culture Station is Vermont’s newest and most modern fish culture station. The facility operates on Lake Champlain surface water and rears and stocks approximately 50,000 pounds of coldwater fish annually. This facility rears brown, rainbow, and steelhead trout, landlocked Atlantic salmon, and walleye for stocking public waters throughout Vermont.

This position is responsible for overseeing all fish production operations and objectives, assisting with meeting facility regulatory requirements, addressing fish health and biosecurity needs, conducting public outreach, and performing some administrative duties. This position is also responsible for supervising and evaluating the performance of five permanent employees.

The successful applicant would be required to live in on-site housing. Weekend rotational assignments and occasional holiday coverage can be expected. The successful applicant would be expected to provide emergency off-hours coverage and be compensated through a 20% guaranteed overtime payment provision. The state of Vermont has a 15-step pay grade system, which can be found at the Vermont Human Resources website, along with all benefit information. This position is classified as Pay Grade 24. Additionally, the successful applicant must obtain a pesticide applicator's license and CPR certification within six months of their hire date.

Salary: $60,632 Annually, as well as an Additional 20% VSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement Guaranteed Overtime Payment Provision ($12,126 annually) (Vermont Paygrade 24, Step 1)

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications are either a Bachelor's degree in fish culture or a natural resources field and two (2) years or more of experience in the propagation and culture of food or game fish and one (1) year or more of supervisory experience, or four (4) years or more experience in the propagation and culture of food or game fish AND one (1) year or more of supervisory experience.
