Engineering internship in recirculating aquaculture - Water treatment processes

Saint-Herblain Internship

Job Details

01/01/2026 - 31/08/2026

It is within this framework and with the objective of reducing consumption and the quantities of residual discharges from future farms, that you will participate in technical studies on the processes of preparing fresh water used in livestock farming as well as on unit operations for the treatment of residual livestock water with a view to its 100% reuse.

Supporting the water treatment process engineer within the engineering team, you will primarily work on the following tasks:

Monitoring of unit operations of biological treatment

- To operate an experimental denitrification unit, online on livestock farming (at pilot scale).

- Participate in the integration of dephosphatation into the denitrification process, through biological or chemical co-treatment.

- Ensure analytical and operational monitoring of performance (N, P reduction), in relation to driving parameters

- Contribute to the analysis of results and communication in the form of dashboards, summary notes or internal presentations.

- Participate in the optimization of the operating sequences of the pilot unit (cycles, reaction time, power supply…).

Waste treatment:

- Analyze the physico-chemical composition of wastewater (nitrogen, phosphorus, COD, TSS, conductivity, etc.).

- Define the treatment strategy to comply with discharge standards, particularly with regard to the biodegradability of effluents.

- Define quality objectives according to the intended uses (technical reuse, partial recirculation, etc.).

- To study and design suitable processes for the removal of remaining pollutants (biofiltration, coagulation/flocculation, disinfection…).

- Conduct laboratory or pilot tests, internally or in conjunction with technical partners.

- Formalize the results in clear and usable reports to guide technological choices.

Requirements

• Education: student in engineering school or master's degree in Process Engineering, Chemistry, environment, bioprocesses, or related fields.

• Technical skills: knowledge of solution chemistry and laboratory analytical methods, water treatment, bioprocesses and aquaculture processes.

• Autonomy and rigor: ability to work independently with attention to detail and precision in conducting tests.

• Scientific curiosity: interest in applied research and industrial processes in aquaculture, attraction to innovation.

• Analytical and synthesis skills: ability to evaluate technical and economic solutions in relation to the company's objectives.

• Additional asset: experience or interest in sustainable aquaculture, biological processes, or water resource management technologies.
