As part of our involvement in resource management, we are recruiting a FISHERIES PROJECT MANAGER to lead and monitor the shellfish sector in Northern European areas and to monitor the fishing agreement with the United Kingdom (UK).

Supported by the Technical Director and reporting to the Operations Director, you will join the fisheries & aquaculture division (9 people) within our structure (27 employees).

You will work closely with the project managers of other French (committees and producer organizations) and European (advisory committees) professional organizations and, within the committee, with all the project managers from the fisheries & aquaculture, environment, legal, and management departments.

In charge of the coordination and monitoring of strategic fisheries in Northern Europe; you will lead the "English Channel North Sea" Commission of the CNPMEM and will be responsible for community and French management regimes for species such as sea bass and gear such as the demersal seine and the large mesh net.

You will participate in the work of European institutions and the implementation of the trade and cooperation agreement with the UK. You will be responsible for leading and monitoring some of France's most important shellfish fisheries by coordinating the CNPMEM Commission of the same name and overseeing scallop management at the national and European levels. On all these topics, you will participate in or develop scientific programs in partnership with various stakeholders.

MAIN monitoring missions:

North Sea and Western Waters Fisheries

  • Facilitating the "English Channel–North Sea" Commission and associated working groups
  • Follow European scientific advice and management guidelines
  • Monitor fisheries and manage national sea bass fishing regimes in the Northern zone, and manage purse seine fishing practices in the Eastern Channel and large-mesh net fishing practices off the Western Channel
  • Participate in and contribute to the work of the North Sea and Northern Western Waters Advisory Committees
  • Follow the scientific programs related to these fisheries

Shellfish fisheries using boat-based fishing methods

  • Facilitating the "Shellfish from Onboard Fishing" Commission
  • Managing the regulations for these fisheries (whelk, scallops and other shellfish)
  • Monitoring the management of the scallop at the interregional, national and European levels

Regarding the implementation of the agreement with the UK

  • Facilitating the "Brexit" working group
  • Participate in the implementation of the trade agreement and cooperate with the UK
  • To support the monitoring of British public policies on fisheries and marine environment management

Requirements

Desired profile

 

  • You have a degree in marine biology, marine sciences (Master 2) or fisheries engineering,
  • with excellent command of English
  • Ideally, you have a minimum of 2 years' experience in the professional fishing sector.
  • Experience in the fishing industry and within a professional structure would be an asset.
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office. 
  • You demonstrate strong writing, summarizing and popularization skills. 
  • You are dynamic, open-minded, with a definite sense of dialogue, you like working in a team and have good interpersonal skills.
