Fisheries Outreach Specialist

Job Details

The Fisheries Outreach Specialist will work in coordination with the Public Information Officer to interface with the public to communicate complex fishery issues and encourage public involvement in the Council’s process. The incumbent will lead the development, design, and layout of assigned outreach and education materials and manage specific public outreach tools and software platforms to ensure accuracy of information related to commercial and recreational fishing regulations. The Fisheries Outreach Specialist will work with Council staff, as well as a wide range of state and federal professionals, academic partners, and stakeholders. This is a highly visible position at the Council. The incumbent will have an opportunity to further develop professional skills in support of the Council’s outreach and education efforts. Requirements

Master’s degree (M.S. or M.A.) from an accredited college or university preferred or minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) with at least 3 years’ relevant experience. Education and experience should be in the field of marine/environmental science education, communications, marketing, biology, fisheries ecology, marine resource management, or marine/environmental science education. Knowledge of fisheries management, fisheries biology, and fishing communities is necessary. Experience in WordPress, social media management, database management, Canva or other design software is desired. The individual should have strong oral and written communication skills to interact with the public, other staff, federal and state agency employees, and Council members.
