Job Details
We are seeking a versatile Field Projects Officer to add to our local team, which currently consists of a Field Coordinator. This is a generalist role designed for someone who is comfortable operating and communicating in a range of settings, from farm environments and local markets to engagement with local government authorities.
Your primary mission will be to:
- Conduct market research activities, including interviews, surveys, and field observations, as required
- Provide technical support on the ground for our water quality pilot program
- Gather information on, and test, new intervention ideas to improve farmed fish welfare
Responsibilities
- Market Survey & Data Collection: Lead the execution of our new Qualitative Market Survey in Luzon. You will be responsible for managing the end-to-end data collection process—from identifying key vendors to conducting structured interviews—to map fish supply chains and welfare practices.
- Water Quality Pilot Support: Visit partner fish farms in Pangasinan and Pampanga to assist in the rollout of our water quality pilot. This includes monitoring technical equipment, recording water quality parameters, and general troubleshooting on the ground.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the existing Field Coordinator to sync schedules, share insights, and ensure a unified approach to our fieldwork, alongside close collaboration with Scale Welfare’s co-founders (based in the Netherlands and Vietnam).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a professional representative of Scale Welfare when interacting with market vendors, farm owners, and local authorities.
- Reporting: Translate field observations and raw data into clear, structured reports, and be comfortable producing a wide range of written outputs in English.
Requirements
- Background: A degree or professional experience in Aquaculture, Fisheries, or a related biological science, is preferred, but not required. We prioritize a strong generalist skillset.
- Adaptability: You are equally comfortable troubleshooting water quality sensors and thinking of a bigger-picture intervention strategy/design.
- Ownership & Initiative: Demonstrated ability to take full, end-to-end responsibility for projects, proactively identifying challenges, defining next steps, and managing execution autonomously.
- Language: Fluency in Tagalog and English is required. Proficiency in other regional languages is a significant advantage.
- Autonomy: Ability to manage your own schedule and logistics while working remotely and in the field.
- Independent Travel: Should be comfortable traveling autonomously, as the role involves independent travels across Luzon
- Digital Literacy: Proficiency in Google Workspace applications (or Microsoft Office).
