Job Details
This permanent seasonal position (currently funded for 6 months from April through September) is working in the Division of Sport Fish area management team based out of the Homer office that oversees the monitoring and management of sport fisheries in the Lower Cook Inlet management area. This position will be primarily responsible for leading Chinook and coho salmon escapement monitoring projects on the Anchor and Ninilchik Rivers. The incumbent will lead the daily enumeration and operation of sonar, instream video systems, fixed picket weirs, and floating resistance board weirs. This position will also assist with beach seine surveys to collect biological data, proofing and finalizing data, razor clam stock assessment surveys, Chinook salmon broodstock collection, rotary screw trap operation and PIT tagging Chinook salmon smolt, and the salmon stocking program.

Good attention to detail for proofing data and reviewing sonar and video files in season.

Maintaining and operating salmon escapement monitoring equipment including fixed-picket weirs, floating weirs, sonar, instream video, and remote power systems.

Capable of thriving in a dynamic working environment by being able to multitask and reprioritize workload based on changing needs.

Ability to effectively communicate with crew, supervisors, and the public while working independently and in small groups.

A strong interest in fisheries management and biology, Alaska, the Lower Cook Inlet area, ADF&G, and/or sport fisheries and fishing.
