Job Details

The Fish Health Lab Supervisor at Pacific Seafood plays a critical role within our farm and hatchery operations, supporting proactive fish health management. This position requires strict adherence to safety and sanitation standards to safeguard both staff and aquatic species, and is well-suited for a collaborative, detail-oriented, and adaptable individual.

Key Responsibilities
 

  • Serve as a role model by consistently demonstrating and promoting The Pacific Group Diamond Philosophy: Productivity, Quality, Excellence, and Teamwork.
  • Partner with the Fish Health Team and onsite EHS Lead to ensure compliance with audit, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with external research partners as needed.
  • Assist with coordination of regulatory permits, including but not limited to WDFW and USFWS egg import permits and WDFW/CCT transport permits for fingerlings.
  • Assist with vaccine trials, bacterial culture work, biological sampling, and molecular diagnostics.
  • Collaborate on research projects.
  • Serve as point of contact for hatchery fish health inquiries and interpretation of laboratory results.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including procurement, and inventory control.
  • Guiding, scheduling, and conducting onsite sampling activities as needed.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of fish husbandry and production practices.
     

Laboratory Operations & Leadership:
 

  • Oversee daily fish health laboratory operations, including workflow prioritization, sample processing, and turnaround times.
  • Ensure continuity of lab operations.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory team members.
  • Review fish health department daily time logs in payroll system.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management of fish health staff.
  • Ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and proper laboratory techniques.
     

Quality Assurance & Data Management:
 

  • Maintain and enforce QA/QC standards for all laboratory procedures and reporting.
  • Review and validate laboratory results for leadership.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, traceability, and recordkeeping.
  • Manage fish health data systems and reporting accuracy.
  • Support development of reporting tools to enhance operational decision-making.
  • Identify, monitor, and report to internal leadership emerging fish health risks and trends.
  • Ensure and maintain proprietary data confidentiality.
     

Process Improvement & Biosecurity:
 

  • Develop, update, and maintain laboratory SOPs and protocols.
  • Identify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, accuracy, and workflow.
  • Implement new lab technologies and methodologies in collaboration with leadership and budget.
  • Identify and improve farm-wide and hatchery biosecurity protocols.
  • Provide weekend coverage as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines.

Requirements


 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Fisheries Science, Aquatic Science, Biology, or a related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant industry or direct laboratory experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Work weekends as required.
  • Travel as required up to 10% of the time.
     

Preferred:
 

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Fisheries Science, Aquatic Science, Biology, or a related field
  • Advanced training or experience in aquaculture, fish health, or laboratory-based research
  • AFS Aquatic Animal Health Inspector certification
