We’re Hiring: Marine Biologist & Blue BioResources Specialist

Location: Karachi, Pakistan, with coastal field visits
Type: Full-time / Consultant-to-permanent
PALS is developing a commercial Blue BioResources platform focused on seaweed farming, marine biomass processing, fish waste valorization, chitosan, microalgae, aquaculture inputs, salicornia, mangrove restoration and other sustainable marine-based products.
We are looking for a practical, field-oriented and commercially minded Marine Biologist & Blue BioResources Specialist to help assess coastal resources, identify viable species, design pilot projects and support the development of scalable marine-based products.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct coastal field surveys across Karachi, Sindh and selected Balochistan locations
• Identify commercially useful marine species such as seaweed, microalgae, shellfish, artemia, sea cucumber and other bioresources
• Recommend suitable sites, species, harvesting methods and cultivation systems
• Support seaweed farming, drying, processing and product development
• Assist with fish waste, shrimp shell/chitosan, microalgae, salicornia, aquaculture and mangrove restoration pilots
• Coordinate lab testing and prepare technical reports, SOPs and feasibility notes
• Liaise with universities, labs, government bodies, consultants and technical partners
• Train coastal communities and field teams on responsible collection and basic quality control
Requirements
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Biology, Marine Sciences, Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, Oceanography, Environmental Science, Biotechnology or a related field
• 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in marine biology, aquaculture, fisheries, coastal ecology, seaweed, algae, environmental assessment or marine resource development
Preferred Experience:
Experience in seaweed farming, spirulina/microalgae cultivation, aquaculture, fisheries, fish/shrimp waste processing, chitosan, collagen, marine biotechnology, mangrove restoration, blue carbon or environmental impact assessment will be an advantage.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate should be scientifically strong, sustainability-focused, commercially practical, comfortable working in the field and able to communicate technical findings clearly to management, partners and non-technical teams.
