Biological Scientist I - will be responsible for assisting research faculty, staff, and students to manage and maintain live organisms for aquaculture research projects. Responsibilities include care of live aquatic research organisms and maintenance of their recirculating aquaculture systems, oversee execution of aquaculture research protocols, collect and statistically analyze data and interpret results, assist with publishing research results in scientific journals and extension and trade documents, oversee maintenance of the large aquaculture research laboratory and greenhouse, keep accurate laboratory and animal care records, maintain equipment, and assist with extension activities including presentations, tours, and publications. Additionally, the Biological Scientist I will disseminate research findings through technical reports, presentations at scientific conferences and industry workshops, contribute to writing grant proposals, and purchase equipment and supplies. This position requires some weekend and holiday work. Full time position with benefits to start ASAP.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Candidate should have a strong interest in fish aquaculture. The position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master of Science degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience. Candidate should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, and knowledge of basic laboratory methods and safety. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time of the start date.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of aquaculture. Experience and maintenance of live marine aquatic organisms, water quality monitoring and management, recirculating aquaculture systems maintenance, spawning fish, culture of marine fish larvae by feeding live zooplanktonic food organisms. Collection and statistical analysis of research data, and publication of research data in scientific journal articles.
