Tassal is seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Coordinator to join our prawn hatchery team in Proserpine.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in overseeing commercial Prawn hatchery operations, with a primary focus on broodstock maturation while supporting larval rearing, algae production, and our domestication program.
Reporting to the Site Manager, you will provide technical leadership across hatchery operations, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, husbandry, biosecurity, safety, and production performance.
You will work closely with hatchery teams to coordinate daily activities, solve technical challenges, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to the ongoing success of Australia's leading prawn breeding and production program.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day hatchery operations to meet production targets and performance objectives.
- Monitor animal health, water quality, and system performance to ensure optimal production outcomes.
- Provide technical leadership, training, and mentoring to hatchery team members.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve technical, husbandry, and operational issues.
- Support inventory management, stock control, and critical consumable planning.
- Analyse production data, identify trends, and provide recommendations for operational improvements.
- Uphold biosecurity, animal welfare, workplace health and safety, and environmental compliance standards.
- Collaborate across broodstock, larval rearing, algae production, and domestication teams to achieve site priorities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, efficiency, and hatchery performance.
Requirements
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience in aquaculture, hatchery operations, broodstock production, or a related environment.
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, hatchery systems, water quality management, and biosecurity practices.
- Proven ability to coordinate daily operations and effectively prioritise competing tasks.
- Experience leading, coaching, and developing team members.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve operational challenges.
- Ability to analyse production data and make informed operational decisions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and production record management systems.
- Qualifications in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Animal Science, or a related discipline are highly regarded.
