Job Details
The Case Research Team in SCELSE is seeking a research fellow with established field techniques, ability to use molecular protocols for DNA and RNA isolation from marine bacteria and seagrasses for molecular community analysis, genome sequencing and metagenomics. The candidate should be a talented marine microbiologist with experience working with marine microbes and field experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform manipulative experiments with corals and bacteria to determine their thermal and disease tolerance
- To sample, manipulate and experiment with corals using physiological and molecular analysis
- Work with a group of marine scientists to identify beneficial microbes for coral resilience.
Requirements
- PhD in marine microbiology or marine microbial ecology
- Competent in molecular microbiology and bioinformatics
- Ability to culture bacteria and corals to manipulate them in laboratory and field station settings.
- Ability to perform DNA manipulation (e.g., extraction, purification, QC) for molecular community analysis.
- Ability to perform PAM-fluorometry, flow cytometry, microscopy.
- Marine field experience
- Confidence in swimming, working in intertidal zone and boat travel for field sampling.
- Ability to handle microbes competently and safely up to Biological Safety Level 2 (BSL2)
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Possess a sense of initiative and proactiveness
