The Shellfish Hatchery Manager is responsible for the operation of the PACRC bivalve hatchery and microalgae production facility. Works with the Principal Investigator overseeing bivalve/invertebrate culture projects to conduct research and development for hatchery production and grow out methods for several species of bivalves and other invertebrates in Hawai’i and other locations. Species include Pacific and Eastern oysters, pearl oysters, pen shells, microalgae, macroalgae and other native species. Coordinates schedules and tasks for other hatchery employees. Oversees student assistants employed in the Workforce Training Program. Drives to project sites using UH vehicles to conduct field work, procurement, such as going to hardware stores, and transport items on the PACRC site and between campus sites. Will assist in production of polyploid oysters.
