Hi! I'm Esobel Jaen-Fernando, an aquaculture professional specializing in groupers and barramundi. I love pushing through to achieve targets before the deadline and I love validating and ticking off my own and my team's checklists.

For me, to increase the survival and growth rates of the fish, there are three main focuses.

1. First is the science and engineering - water quality and feed management for all the stages; the designs of the facility and the cages/tanks/ponds.
2. Second is the art of doing things - it's more than the science itself but the way of doing things - from planning your production cycles and your budget to coordinating with other teams and to seeing whether the fish are happy or sad. The art includes your GRIT!
3. Last but most important is the people. If the team handling the farm is well-engaged, motivated, coached and cared for, they will give their 101% to making sure that the KPIs will be hit.
