Biosecurity Advisor - Freshwater

We are seeking a Biosecurity Advisor to drive the strategy for controlling aquatic animal pests in Te Tai Tokerau. This role involves planning and executing surveillance and control programs, coordinating with our Biosecurity team, wider council staff, and external agencies. You will manage contractors, build relationships with Iwi and other key partners, and develop educational resources to raise awareness and encourage community involvement.  

In this role, you will play a crucial part in protecting our environment by using innovative control methods and new technologies. You will also be responsible for operational planning, monthly progress reporting, and enhancing data sharing with other agencies. Requirements

We are looking for someone who can bring the following to our diverse talent pool:  

  • A relevant tertiary degree in Biosecurity, Science, Ecology, Aquaculture or similar. 
  • Previous experience in freshwater ecology, ideally with pest fish and practical netting experience.  
  • Experience in working with hapū and Iwi  
  • Experience in working with community groups or similar.  
  • Have good computer literacy skills and experience in use of Microsoft applications especially Word, Excel and Outlook  
  • Current and Full Driver’s Licence.
