Aquaculture Extension Specialist

Job Details

California Sea Grant and Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego seek a resourceful, innovative aquaculture extension specialist. Duties include building an extension program of integrated applied research, community engagement and education that will advance sustainable aquaculture and address coastal and marine issues in Southern California. This specialist will work closely with Biology Division scientists, other CASG extension specialists, and a variety of aquaculture stakeholders to develop and disseminate information and tools needed to grow sustainable aquaculture in the region.

Candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to and track record of improving diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and accessibility in STEM fields including aquaculture are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in marine science with expertise in developmental biology, ecology, ​​marine organismal biology, physiology and development, or other related fields, with demonstrated experience working in any current or emerging areas related to aquaculture. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong potential for accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.

Preferred qualifications

Applicants should have strong organization and communication skills, and a clear ability to engage with a range of people, including other academics, stakeholders, policymakers, and the general public. A demonstrable broad range of experience in aquaculture-related research and building communities of practice is desirable. Some experience with teaching at the college level (either as an instructor or teaching assistant) is favorable.
