Job Details

Under supervision of the Program Leader, conduct research on aquaponic and hydroponic plant production systems. Aquaponic focus includes engineering design, water quality management, and effluent treatment. Conduct research on aquaponics and hydroponics production systems. Responsible for maintaining brood stock and producing fingerlings, maintaining research facilities at the Agricultural Experiment Station field complex and adjacent areas (such as USDA-ARS land) and equipment. Responsible for grant writing, planning and initiating experiments, collecting and analyzing data, conducting economic analyses, writing peer reviewed journal articles and other publications, presenting papers at conferences and providing aquaponic workshops and short courses.

Requirements

Knowledge of aquaponic, recirculating hydroponic systems, fish breeding, fish nutrition, water quality monitoring, wastewater purification, experimental design, aquaponic/hydroponic system related construction and hydroponic plant production.
Demonstrated skill in plumbing, construction, electrical, masonry, carpentry, and power tool operation.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated skill in problem solving and analytics.
Ability to make oral presentations to large groups.
Ability to organize work efficiently.
Ability to work independently.

Doctorate degree in Aquaponics, Hydroponics and/or Related Field.
Valid US Driver’s License Required.
Pesticide applicator certification important but not required.
