Hatchery Technician

Job Details

ROLE: ● Cleaning - follow protocols for cleaning tasks related to hatchery work and algae culture processes ● Microalgal culture - media preparation, inoculations (stock cultures, carboys, kalwalls, batch tanks, photo-bioreactors), counting, culture health assessment, and water quality monitoring ● Feeding - calculate and understand feeding regimes for all stages of the hatchery ● Broodstock - daily maintenance, conditioning process evaluations, spawning procedures ● Larval culture - water changes, larval counting, health assessment, restocking, and feeding ● Setting & post-set - setting system preparation, larval stocking, daily maintenance, water changes, daily health assessments; seed grading, restocking, water changes, cleaning post-set systems ● Data collection - keep detailed and organized records daily for all hatchery processes ● Land-based upwellers - daily cleaning, maintenance, and seed grading

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: ● Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly ● Ability to bend down, stand, kneel or climb ladders for extended periods of time ● Work in all conditions including heat, humidity, cold, etc. ● Flexibility of schedule including 8+ hour days, weekend shifts, and holiday coverage ● Valid driver’s license and mode of transportation ● Have an upbeat personality and positive attitude ● Ability to complete repetitive tasks well and efficiently
