The "Shrimp Allergy" session will address basic and clinical research on the 18 major and minor shrimp allergens identified so far from various shrimp species. Allergen genes include: tropomyosin, arginine kinase, myosin light chain, sarcoplasmic calcium-binding protein, vitellogenin, hemocyanin, actin, myosin heavy chain, ovarian peritrophin, GAPDH, enolase, ovarian peritrophin 1 precursor, 14-3-3 zeta. Topics covered by speakers: environmental factors associated with new shrimp allergens, genetic and epigenetic mechanisms regulating expression of shrimp allergens, including genome rearrangement via DNA transposition and horizontal transfer of bacteria and microbial transgenes (Bacillus thurigiensis, others), cross-reactivity of shrimp and house dust mite allergens, new methods for diagnosis of shrimp allergens, and treatment of shrimp allergy based on mimotope and hypoallergen vaccines.
