Overexpression of glutamate decarboxylase, antisense against gonadotropin releasing hormone, GnRH, shRNAi for primordial germ cell migration genes and gene editing of key reproductive hormones were compared for reversible genetic sterilization of channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus. These technologies have the potential to provide total biological and reproductive confinement of domestic, interspecific hybrid, exotic and transgenic fish. An update of the progress on these sterilizing methodologies is presented.
