After receiving a Ph.D. degree in aquatic animal nutrition at Michigan State University, I have obtained considerable experience researching system design, larval and post-larval fish nutrition, and fish physiology for the USDA Agricultural Research Service and Florida Atlantic University.

I have served as a volunteer in the U.S. Peace Corps in Sierra Leone, West Africa, as co-manager of the country's tilapia fingerling production centre, and a rural extension agent and lately I have been engaged in the Farmer to Farmer program.

Since Farmer to Farmer started, volunteers have completed programs in over 110 countries. Over 16,000 volunteers have served since 1985. The Program is funded through the US Farm Bill to assist developing countries, middle-income countries, emerging markets, sub-Saharan African countries, and Caribbean Basin countries to increase farm production and incomes.

Recently Florida Atlantic University (FAU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aquaculture without Frontiers (AwF) and will be developing a Farmer to Farmer strategy.
