Monitoring of development of first generation (F1) prospective humpback grouper broodstock on morphology, reproduction and genetics are needed in order to record data of cultured grouper properly. Data collected from the monitoring could be used as references in the production of cultured broodstock.

The objective of this research was to evaluate the quality of F1 broodstock by applying good rearing management and by using microsatellite marker to distinguish characters of growth, gonad development and genetics. Broodstock were reared in concrete tanks volume of 75 m3 with 4 different treatments: (1) hormone estradiol implant, (2) 17 α-methyl testosterone, (3) a mixture of α-methyl testosterone and aromatase inhibitor, and (4) control. Parameters observed were growth, gonad maturity level, composition of hormones produced in blood and genetics performance analysed using microsatellite.

The results showed that F1       prospective broodstock could grow       well with body weights range from       680±60.5 to 820±76.5 and body       lengths range from 34 to 36 cm.       Administration of reproductive       hormones may accelerate the       development of both male and female gonads.

Composition of       hormone testosterone and estradiol       in the blood plasma confirmed that       40% of the population was male. Genetic performance from microsatellite analysis showed good values 0.778-1.000 (Table 1), therefore they can be used as broodstock candidate.
