Indonesia is the world runner up in having the largest biodiversity just below Brazil.  It is maritime country with archipelago characteristic from Sabang to Merauke and thousands of river, lake, and swamp area.

The explosion of population caused the significant crisis on food that need diversification effort as solution to overcome the crisis.  As aquaculture production is tends to be increased year by year, it is possible for counting on aquaculture as alternative food provider for the future.  That so far, aquaculture is a promising future for Indonesia.

As one of the economical valued commodity, Kelabau has the high price and the market availability is getting low.  It is mostly consumed in Kalimantan even the habitat is spread from Sumatera, Malaysia, and Singapore.  The perform is look alike Nilem and reach 1 - 4 kg per fish in weight average. This development of Kelabau is expected as information source for introduction of indigenous species commodity. Conducted in Mandiangin Freshwater Aquaculture Development Center and fish farmers around the working area started from Januari to December 2015.

Based on applied research about multi location test conducted in 2014, the growth rate of Kelabau G1 is 100% to 200% lower than the growth rate of common carp, but have better disease resistance.  During 2015 the applied research conduct more specific for the second generation for 5 months rearing period in floating net 3 x 3 x 3 m in measure for 3 units located in Banjar district.  The grow out is conducted in pond culture with 1000 fishes per pond.  The average weight of fingerling is 7.15 3.14 g and the length average is 6.17 1.22 cm given by sinking feed (28% minimum protein content and 6% fat content).  About 3 - 5% dosage from total biomass are given twice daily.  The result come up within 5 months rearing period is average weight 240.52 6.61 g, average length 20.75 0.66 cm, specific growth rate 1.96 0.22%, survival rate 70.93 2.21, food conversion ratio 1.97 0.17.  Business analysis comes with Rp.14.145.000, R/C ratio 1.3, payback period (cycle) 2 and 150 (kg) BEP.
