Abalone (Haliotis asinina) is a class of molluscs gastropod animals fit into family Holiotidae. Various sources mention that the Abalone has a very high nutritional value with protein content 71,99%; 3,20% fat; fiber 5,60%; 11,11% ash and moisture content of 0,60%, while the shell can be used to create all kinds of household decoration items.

Batam Mariculture Development Centre in an effort to develop the cultivation of Abalone have tried to apply the methods of rearing with 3 different shelters placement models. Through the application of this method is expected to be known model placement shelters with the best levels of productivity that can be used in the process of cultivating Abalone. As for the placement of the 3 models of shelters used in this activity are (1) the placement of the hanging shelters model, (2) the placement of stocking shelters were scattered model and (3) the placement of the multilevel shelters model.

The rearing process starts from the eggs generated through the process of spawning as much 65 Abalone broodstocks with a comparison of males : females are 1 : 2. During the process leading up to the spawning Abalone broodstock given feed of seaweed Gracillaria sp. Eggs spawning results then filtered using eggs collector and transferred into 3 pieces of 2 m³ rearing tanks which has attached a plastic-based shelters. During the larvae rearing feed was given in the form of Diatomae Nitzschia sp. and Chaetoceros sp. and also Tetraselmis sp.  (strain chuii).

During the 90 days of rearing has some different levels of productivity results obtained on each model. Model (1) with the placement of the hanging shelters produced 50 Abalone seeds with 1,5 - 2 cm size; Model (2) with the placement of stocking shelters were scattered produced 150 Abalone seeds with 1,5 - 2 cm size; and Model (3) with the placement of multilevel shelters produced 25 Abalone seeds with 1 - 1,5 cm size.

Based on those results when done analysis turned out to be a Model (2) with the placement of stocking shelters shows the highest productivity as seen from the number of seeds produced as well as a better growth rate compared to the other 2 models.
