HERBAL ANTIBIOTICS IN NURSERY PRODUCTION OF ASIAN SEA BASS (Lates calcarifer, BLOCH)

Asian Sea Bass is one of the potential commodities which is intensively cultured. One of the points of achievement Asian Sea Bass nursery is the management of the health of fish. Fungal, bacterial and viral infections could cause stress of fish. To controlled fish disease by bacterial, fungal and viral using some treathments such as vaccicination, immunostimulant, probiotics and herbal medicine and peoples concern on it.

The purpose of this activity is to know the effectivity of herbal antibiotics during the nursery productions, growth and survival rate of Asian Sea Bass. The activity conducted for 2 months between June - July 2015 at Marine Culture Development Center Batam,  Riau Islands. Total fish were 300 fishes with an average size of 5 cm, divided in two tanks containing 150 fishes each. In this activity, fishes were bathing with herbal antibiotics 2 times (at the beginning and 10 days after first bathing) for prevent diseases or conditioning.

The results showed after 5 weeks activity,  there are differences growth rate between fish within Herbal Antibiotics (18.67 gram) and control (12.73 gram). The survival rate of the fish is 80% for the fish within Herbal Antibiotics and 78% for control. Which means, the use of antibiotics herbal with mangrove extract, peat soil dried neem's leaves and roots saponin, tanin active ingredient had boosted the immune system of fish.
