Sea grapes or lawi-lawi (Caulerpasp) is a new prime commodity that has been developed by Balai Perikanan Budidaya Air Payau Takalar (BPBAPT) and Australian Centre for International Agriculture Research. It significantly are increasing aquaculture production as well as improving smallholder aquaculture income through low cost production, environmentally friendly, and sustainable. Lawi-lawi as an macro algae species is can be used for bio filter and bio-shelter, and also able to polyculture with other aquatic species such as milkfish and blue swimming crab. In the same period with lawi-lawi culture by BPBAPT as a commodity diversification to improve productivity of idle ponds, nile hybridization activity is also implemented to produce nile with high salinity adaptation that able to live and grow in high salinity of the sea.The polyculture experiment is conducted to determine the interaction between lawi-lawi (Caulerpa sp.) with hybrid nile in controlled vessel. The variables to measure are the row rates, survival and productivity of cultured species, and also the changes of the farming environment during the experiment.
