THE SUCCESSFUL RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION BREEDING TECHNOLOGY TO SOCIETY OF ORNAMENTAL FISH IN SEVERAL AREAS IN INDONESIA

Ornamental fish became favorite income in fisheries sector since 1972 which was indicated by increasing demand both wild and aquaculture sources. Breeding research in several species of ornamental fish has done such as botia (Chromobotia macrachanthus) and koi (Cyprinus carpio) since several decades in Depok as a research institute. Species Botia has succeed both breading technology and commercialization application to several areas in Indonesia such as East Belitung, Katingan-Kasongan, Center Kalimantan and Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatera. As well koi already applied of breeding technology to society in Minapolitan area in Blitar, East Java. The new technology of breeding which succeed was rainbow kurumoy fish (melanotaenia parva), the fish which found endemic in West Papua. This successful of this technology really appreciate by society and useful by all sectors.
