Qualifications:

MS in Microbiology, Aquaculture, Fisheries, or related field. Experience working with fish or other aquatic species. Applicant should have peer-reviewed publications or other scholarly outputs. Interest in bacterial pathogens, aquatic organisms, and aquatic biosecurity. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills with ability to multitask and work long hours and on weekends. Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. Ability and willingness to obtain training certifications as needed for the position. Experience working in aquaculture facilities is a plus.

Description:

Dr. Cova Arias’ laboratory at Auburn University’s School of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences is seeking to fill a PhD student position (GRA) in Aquatic Animal Health. The student will work on a USDA-funded project investigating the efficacy of a new columnaris vaccine under experimental field conditions. This program includes the expectation of high research activity marked by scholarship in the field of specialization. In addition, the student will be expected to contribute to the diagnosis of pathogens of inland, coastal, and marine fishes and invertebrates as part of the Southeast Cooperative Fish Parasite and Disease Project (a multi-state aquatic animal disease diagnostics laboratory serving fisheries and natural resource agencies throughout the southeastern United States). The position is located in Auburn AL 36849 at the Center for Advance Science, Innovation, and Commerce of Auburn University.
