Objective

Insight specializes in improving the economic and environmental sustainability of the marine aquarium trade. Insight guides the Coral Reef Aquarium Fisheries Campaign, a multi-institutional initiative whose goal is to empower sustainable coral reef aquarium fisheries that support biodiversity conservation, healthy coral reefs, and the livelihoods of fishers, traders, and others who depend on them across the global value chain. The Campaign does this through three approaches: 1) aquaculture research & development, 2) upgrading the value chain--that is, changing the paradigm from a volume-driven model, where producers and fishers earn little per unit to a value-driven model, where producers and fishers are empowered to command a premium price point for health, well-cared for fish that survive the trip from source to destination, and 3) working with source country governments to develop marine aquarium fisheries management.
