Eel Aquaculture Internship

Franklin, Maine Internship $11.50/ Hr

Job Details

American Unagi is seeking one more skilled intern to assist with our American eel aquaculture operation during the summer of 2019. The candidate must be currently working toward a B.S. degree in the life sciences/engineering/or business and must have a strong interest in aquaculture and sustainable seafood production. This internship will ideally run from early June through late August, but there is some flexibility for the right candidate. Successful applicants will live and work at our commercial pilot project located at the University of Maine’s Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research facility in Franklin, Maine. Close to Acadia National Park, and plenty of outdoor activities. Housing and a living stipend will be awarded.

This position will familiarize the intern with the operation and maintenance of a commercial scale intensive RAS finfish aquaculture facility. It will require the intern to be flexible and adaptable as day to day activities of an aquaculture facility are always fluctuating and often change depending on the needs of the fish and the facility. In addition to familiarizing the intern with RAS aquaculture, we anticipate the student working on pursuing the utilization of our effluent waste stream for value added products. This could include collecting samples, analyzing the nutritive value of these samples, working with value added manufacturers to test and refine the product, readying it for market by performing market research analysis and final product testing, and developing packaging and branding for the finished product.

To apply, please submit a resume, cover letter, and a list of two professional or academic references to by Wednesday May 22nd for consideration.

Successful applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university (with documentation of 6 credit or more for the fall), must be eligible to work in the U.S., and must have a valid driver’s license.
