Responsible for the operation and maintenance of shore-based molluscan shellfish hatchery and nursery facilities. Duties include ensuring water supply, filtration and aeration systems are operational and daily maintenance on equipment (i.e., pumps, filters) is completed. Also responsible for offshore 8-acre experimental shellfish aquaculture farm; specifically, overseeing deployment and required maintenance of culture gear and water quality monitoring equipment associated with field trials conducted by faculty and students.
Plans and develops weekly and monthly activities associated with facilities and farm operations, including coordinating maintenance, sampling, and harvesting of field trials, and communicates with faculty and students involved.
Develops and implements a preventative maintenance and repair program for aquaculture gear, pumps, water supply system, aeration, boats, trailers, outboard motors, and vehicles.
Assists in preparation of production reports, such as water quality, growth and survival data.
Assists in the preparation and implementation of budgets associated with facilities, culture equipment and supplies, including keeping inventory and purchasing supplies.
High school diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant experience managing an agricultural operation and supervising staff. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required number of years of experience.
Valid Florida driver's licensePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
10 years of experience in shellfish aquaculture. Boater safety and water-related skills.
