Postdoctoral research associate position available in the area of bacterial and viral pathogen dynamics particularly as applied to water quality and food safety areas. This is an exciting position where the candidate will be immersed in the development of a set of rapid bacterial pathogen diagnostics for commercialization with an already identified outside multinational corporation. The candidate has the opportunity to mentor and lead undergraduate research projects as part of UNC-CH's study abroad program.
Candidate will have a strong background in molecular diagnostics (qPCR, ddPCR or LAMP), bioinformatics, microbiology, and microbial ecology. Experience with experimental and statistical approaches for water quality and aquaculture are preferred, including experience with shellfish tissue analysis, EPA and FDA approved aquaculture and water quality microbiological methods, RNA and DNA extraction approaches. Bioinformatics experience and experience with regulations for food safety are preferred, but not required. Field and boating experience is desired, but not required. Experience with research on Vibrio sp., particularly as applicable to water quality and shellfish aquaculture, is preferred, but a strong understanding of other bacterial pathogens will be suitable. Strong opportunities exist for the candidate for travel within the United States, UK, and EU.Ph.D
